While many discussions around mobility data spaces focus on future services and innovation, a significant amount of technical and coordination work is taking place behind the scenes to ensure that these ambitions can be effectively implemented at European scale.

Within the boostEDIC M&L project, these activities are carried out in particular under Work Package 3, Gap analysis of European data and services infrastructure and recommendations, led by AustriaTech. The work package plays a central role in analysing existing gaps in mobility and logistics data infrastructures and identifying the conditions needed to enable interoperable and scalable cross-border data exchange across Europe.

As part of these activities, a dedicated series of online workshops has recently been organised with the objective of identifying, validating and refining data interoperability gaps in key domains relevant to the future European mobility data ecosystem.

The workshops focused in particular on:

  • Cross-Border Freight & Logistics Visibility on Tuesday, 26 May
  • Supply Chain Resilience & Safety on Wednesday, 27 May

Through collaborative discussions involving project partners and relevant stakeholders, the sessions explored representative “proxy cases” designed to simulate real operational scenarios and support the identification of concrete interoperability challenges.

The workshops addressed several focus areas, including EU-wide multimodal passenger mobility, cross-border urban access, parking and compliance, cross-border traffic management, CCAM and C-ITS, cross-border electrification and alternative fuels, cross-border freight and logistics visibility and supply chain resilience and safety.

These activities contribute directly to the project’s broader objectives of supporting the implementation of a common European mobility data infrastructure and enabling more effective data sharing and reuse across transport and logistics sectors.

Importantly, the workshops also represent a key step towards producing evidence-based recommendations and reliable project outcomes grounded in operational realities and stakeholder input. By combining technical analysis with collaborative validation processes, boostEDIC M&L aims to support the development of practical and scalable solutions for Europe’s future mobility data ecosystem.

The work carried out under WP3 will continue over the coming months through further analysis, stakeholder engagement and the development of interoperability guidelines and recommendations supporting the future EDIC Mobility & Logistics Data initiative.
